Hearty Apple Pie Oatmeal

This Hearty Apple Pie Oatmeal has all the delicious flavours of apple pie, but as oatmeal for breakfast! This recipe is full of flavour, fibre and yumminess.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup oats rolled oats, quick oats or quick steel cut oats
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chopped dates See recipe tips.
  • 1 apple peeled and chopped

Instructions
 

  • Peel and chop the apple into small pieces. Chop the dates.
  • ​To a large pot add the chopped apple and dates, and the remaining ingredients.
    1 cup oats , 2 1/2 cups water, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 apple, 1/4 cup chopped dates
  • Bring to a light boil and simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often to prevent the oatmeal from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • The oatmeal is done when it's thickened. You can test the oats to see if they're the texture that you like. If you wish to cook them longer you may need to add a little extra water (1/4 cup).
