The best thing about this granola recipe is how versatile it is (and how much cheaper it is than store-bought granola). You can make so many different flavours with it…but it’s delicious as is too! And there are many different ways to enjoy it as well. Here are some serving ideas:

  • Serve with Greek yogurt or sprinkled on your favourite yogurt.
  • Add it to a bowl of sliced bananas and milk.
  • Enjoy with milk or cream like you would cereal.
  • Add it to your favourite bowl of cereal or oatmeal for extra crunchiness.
  • Serve it as a snack. It’s great as a take-along snack for hikes, lunches or really any time.
  • Add it to smoothies.
  • Make a parfait.
  • It’s tasty sprinkled over ice cream too.

Recipe Tips

  • Oats: You can use old fashioned rolled oats or quick oats.
  • Sweetener: Use maple syrup or honey.
  • Oil: Use melted coconut oil or butter.
  • Stir half way! Make sure to stir the mixture half way through the baking time. You might need to stir it a couple times closer to the end of the baking time to prevent burning.
  • Storage: Keep the baked granola in an airtight container in your pantry, no need to refrigerate.

9 Granola Mix-In Ideas

  • Pumpkin Spice Cranberry: Mix in 1/2 cup dried cranberries, 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds. Add 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice to the base recipe.
  • Maple Pecan Delight: Mix in 1/2 cup chopped pecans and 1/4 cup dried apples. Drizzle an additional 2 tbsp of maple syrup over the baked granola.
  • Apple Cinnamon Crunch: Mix in 1/2 cup dried apple pieces and 1 tsp ground cinnamon. Add 1/4 cup raisins for extra sweetness.
  • Cranberry Orange Zest: Mix in 1/2 cup dried cranberries, 1 tbsp orange zest, and 1/4 cup chopped almonds.
  • Cinnamon Raisin Pecan: Mix in 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup chopped pecans. Add an extra tsp of cinnamon for a warm, spicy flavour.
  • Coconut Almond Joy: Mix in 1/2 cup shredded coconut, 1/4 cup chopped almonds, and 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips.
  • Gingerbread Spice: Mix in 1/4 cup crystallized ginger (chopped) and 1/2 tsp ground ginger. Add 1 tsp molasses to the base recipe for deeper flavour.
  • Spiced Pumpkin Seed and Walnut: Mix in 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds and 1/4 cup chopped walnuts. Add 1 tsp nutmeg and 1/2 tsp ground cloves to the base recipe.
  • Chocolate Hazelnut: Mix in 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts and 1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks. Add 1 tbsp cocoa powder to the base recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups rolled oats or quick oats
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil or butter, melted

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl mix the oats, cinnamon, and salt together.
  • In a small bowl whisk together the honey or maple syrup, melted coconut oil or butter, and vanilla.
  • Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and stir until everything is well coated.
  • Spread the mixture evenly over the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes, stirring halfway through. The granola is done when golden brown.
  • Let cool completely before adding any mix-ins. Refer above in the blog post for the list of add-ins.
