Tips for Christmas Meal Planning

Now that you’ve got a planner, here are some tips to keep in mind when you’re organizing all of your Christmas meals, shopping and more.

  • Plan, plan, plan. Make a menu, put together a grocery list, make a to-do list. The more you plan, the less stress there is for you.
  • Make sure to include family favourite recipes in your Christmas menu. Everyone loves tradition. But at the same time, keep it simple. You don’t need to make 20 different things for dinner.
  • Read through all of your recipes before grocery shopping! This is so important. Read through everything to make sure you have what you need before you start cooking and baking.
  • Don’t try anything new on Christmas day! If you want to try any new recipes, consider do a trial run in November or early December.
  • Go through your menu a week before the big day. There is nothing worse than forgotten ingredients. But it’s also good planning to know how much cooking time to allow for each recipe.
  • Prep ahead! Chop veggies ahead of time. Make some recipes ahead of time and just reheat on the day of dinner. The less you have to do on Christmas Day the better.
  • Plan out your serving dishes ahead of time. This saves so much time on the day of your dinner. Decide which dishes you want to serve in, or on which platters or in what bowls, and have them washed and ready to go.
  • Plan your stove and oven strategy. Make sure all the cooking pans needed for dinner will fit on your stove at the same time. Or that all the baking dishes will fit in the oven together. This is where make-ahead recipes are a time, stress and space saver!
  • Ask for help! You do not need to do it all yourself. Ask your family for help. Have someone chop vegetables, grocery shop or take on any tasks that you need! People like to help.
  • You don’t have to make or do it all. Buy buns. Buy pre-made cranberry sauce. Ask a guest to bring something.

I hope you find this Christmas planner useful! With love, from Our Tasty Kitchen to yours!
