Cranberry Orange Sauce Recipe Tips
- Cranberries: You can use whole fresh cranberries or frozen cranberries.
- Orange Juice: I prefer to use fresh oranges because the flavour is so much better, and I also use the zest from them. But you can use premade orange juice.
- Rosemary: You can use fresh or dried rosemary.
- If the sauce is too thick: Stir in more orange juice or water until it’s the consistency you like.
- Storage: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge if you make it ahead of time. Store any leftovers the same way.
Prepare Ahead!
This Cranberry Orange Sauce can easily be made ahead of time! It can be made up to 3 days ahead of time, just store it in an airtight container in the fridge. I always do this because it’s one less thing I have to make on Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner day!
Cranberry Orange Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh or frozen whole cranberries
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp fresh orange zest
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary (about 2 – 3 teaspoons)
Instructions
- Add the cranberries, orange juice, water, sugar, orange zest and fresh rosemary to a large saucepan over low heat.
- Simmer the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries start to soften and the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes.
- Turn the heat up to low-medium and continue to cook until the cranberries burst and the sauce is the consistency that you like. This takes about 10 minutes or so. You may need to mash the cranberries to get a soft, jammy like texture.
- Cool the sauce to room temperature before serving.
