15 Minute Easy Stovetop Baked Beans

15 Minute Easy Stovetop Baked Beans
If you’re looking for a yummy, easy and flavourful side dish that’s ready in about 15 minutes, these Stovetop Baked Beans are great! They’re a great addition to dinner, especially with barbecue.

About this recipe.
You may be thinking how is this a baked beans recipe when you make it on the stove? Well, this is a baked beans shortcut recipe. It’s taking a humble can of baked beans and taking it up a notch by adding more flavour and richness so you end up with a dish that’s delicious and a lot tastier than a regular canned beans. I love this easy stove top recipe any time of year, but especially in the summer with barbecue hot dogs, burgers and ribs. These stovetop beans also travel well making them perfect for a summer picnic, potluck family gatherings and summer cookouts.

Stovetop Baked Beans Recipe Tips
- BEANS: Use canned baked beans in tomato sauce (yep, just cans of beans from the grocery store). If you use maple style baked beans this dish will be quite sweet, so keep that in mind (I might even cut back on adding any brown sugar).
- BACON GREASE: I like to use bacon grease to fry the onions (I always have a jar of it in my fridge) because it adds so much delicious flavour. If you don’t have any, that’s fine, just use olive oil or vegetable oil.
- SWEETENER: This recipe calls for brown sugar, but you can also use maple syrup but I would cut it back to 3 tbsp.
- LEFTOVERS: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. I think they taste even better the next day!
- OPTIONS: You can add other ingredients to these baked beans if you like. Here are some ideas:
- chopped cooked bacon (5 – 6 slices of bacon works great) (or cook the bacon with the onions)
- chopped bell peppers (red pepper, green pepper)
- for a barbecue flavour, add a tablespoon or two of barbecue sauce

Serving Suggestions:
These stovetop homemade baked beans are a perfect side dish to roast chicken, hot dogs, smokies, burgers and ribs. They’re also delicious served over a baked potato, yum! Sometimes I like to add slices of hot dog or smokies to make wieners and beans…my kids love this, it’s a classic!
